The Bike Tow Leash (For Chairs)

No matter your abilities, The Bike Tow Leash is the solution to getting outside safely and enjoying time with your dog.  In a wheelchair, you need both hands available on the hand rims for steering, power and brakes. A regular loose leash can easily tip you, tangle and get caught in the wheels.  All these can harm you and your dog. So for safety, the Bike Tow Leash attaches low on your chair low to prevent tipping. The BTL prevents tangling hands free and provides a resilient barrier between your dog and the wheels.

This keeps their feet from being pinched by the tires. The BTL also allows you dog to propel the chair while automatically receiving direction and speed commands from you through the BTL. Because wheelchairs are shorter than bikes and to keep the dog closer indoors and in public, there is a shorter wheelchair version of the Bike Tow Leash.  There are as many ways to mount a BTL as there are types of wheelchairs. No matter your abilities the dog must have a walk.  Attempting to walk you dog from a powered wheelchair with a regular or hand held leash is dangerous.  A loose leash will easily droop down and tangle around the wheels. When this happens the loose leash can quickly draw the dog’s head down into the path of the wheels.  Narrow paths, doors and elevators are additional problems. The Bike Tow Leash Traditionally mounts low to counteract possible tipping forces. On Manual Chairs This can be more foreword on the front tube AND on powered chairs this can be further back like on the Seat Rail or any sturdy horizontal place to clamp to.

To figure out what you need yourself, the quick mount requires 5/8 of an inch flat area forward and below the rear axle. If more flat area is needed for the Quick Mount, the Chain Stay Clamp is your next option.
